A Terrifying Encounter: When a Python Pays a Visit
Imagine waking up in the dead of night, only to discover a massive, slithering creature resting on your chest. This is exactly what happened to Rachel Bloor, an Australian woman, who experienced a heart-stopping moment that left her and her partner in a state of shock.
It was Monday night, and Rachel, half asleep, reached out for her beloved dog, only to encounter a smooth, unexpected visitor. As she retreated under the covers, her partner illuminated the scene, revealing their worst fears: a 2.5-meter python had made its way onto their bed.
"Oh baby, don't move," her partner warned. Rachel's initial reaction was a mix of shock and concern. Her first instinct was to ensure the safety of her dogs, knowing the potential chaos that could ensue if they discovered the snake.
"I was worried my Dalmatian would go into a frenzy," she explained. With the dogs secured outside, Rachel began the delicate process of extracting herself from the python's embrace.
"It was a bizarre and surreal experience," she recalled. "I was carefully moving out from under the covers, wondering if this was all a dream."
Rachel believes the non-venomous carpet python, a common sight in coastal Australia, had found its way through the window shutters onto her bed. Once freed, she gently guided the python back out, a testament to her calm and collected nature.
"Even as I held it, the python remained surprisingly calm," she said. "It just wobbled gently in my hand."
While her husband was left stunned, Rachel, having grown up around snakes, remained composed. She believes that her calm demeanor helped keep the situation under control.
"I think snakes sense our energy," she suggested. "If we remain calm, they often mirror that calmness."
However, Rachel drew a line at cane toads, an invasive species in Australia. "They're ugly and disgusting," she said. "If it had been a cane toad, I'd have been terrified."
